windows installer error? i can't install JRE.

i come across "Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer
package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.
Contact your support personnel or package vendor." when i try installing J2SE
Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6. I've tried the two things microsoft
mentioned on the 1721 error and have got the same error. I also tried
installing WindowsInstaller-KB884016-v2-x86 which is the windows installer,
but i have a newer one installed. Any ideas to help me would be appreciated.

1st youre download for installer is wrong,it should be #893803 This is
version 3.1 Also,go to run type:services.msc In msc,scroll to
installer,double
click on it,select,auto start from manual mode,then start service,close out.
Do this after you update to 893803

Yeah the installer i downloaded was version 3.0. I already had 3.1 and tried
to uninstall it without any luck. I have 3.1 installed now and already
starting Windows Installer and putting it on auto.
