windows installer bug

When I try to remove or install a certain program(like
nero),a i get the following message:"The Windows Installer
service could not be accessed.Contact zour support
personnel to verify that th Windows Installer is properly
registered."
I was attacked by virus a few weeks ago but I fixed and
contained it by using Norton Antivirus,but when this
problem consisted and said about an application error
(0xc0000005) even when I tried to defragment my disc!!! I
even tried to download and re-install win.installer but
the install was refused because I already owned the newest
version that and I couldn't install!!!

Hi Dino,
I'll bet that you have installed SP4.....Join the club
of " I wish I did not do that". I have exactly the same
problem and I have been trying to fin an answer for the
last week. I have posted questions here on the MS
Newsgroups as well as several other places, but because I
don't speak computerese I'm lost. I really feel for you.

in this case you are screwd.I too had the same prob .I
contact almost every one from the maker of my PC ,they
said that my PC is as good as TRASH,And i contact micro
soft about this over the phone,and they refuse to answer
unless i pay a very (large)hefty amount of cash to them.
screwd them!!!.I end up giving away to salvation army
for free (my $3.500) sony vaio PC.
