windows install files

I'm looking at my add/remove programs and see that I have 23 files identified
as KB884016, KB884267, etc. I see that these are windows install files of
some kind. Do I need to keep them?

Specifically, they are Windows Update install/uninstall files. These are
the hotfixes you see at Windows Update site.

If you are sure you're never going to need to uninstall them, you can remove
the uninstallers. Note that doing this via Add/Remove programs removes the
hotfix itself, and Windows Update will then want to reinstall it next time
you visit there.

If you aren't really short on drive space, there really isn't much of any
benefit to removing these.

These are uninstall files for Windows hotfixes. You can remove them,
but if you do, you will never be able to uninstall the associated
hotfixes.

My advice is to leave them, even if you are "sure" you will never need
to uninstall them. Sometimes it turns out that you do need something
you thought you didn't, and they take up only a tiny amount of disk
space.

OP states these files are in Add/Remove Programs.

These are not the uninstall files in my estimation.

These would be the actual installed hot fixes.

I don't think they should be removed or Windows update will try to re-install
them.

I agree that if OP was speaking about the uninstall hotfix files in Windows
folder, they "could" be removed if space was at a premium.

My mistake. I read his message too quickly.

Thanks for the correction.

them.

And removing them would pack back the security exposures they were
designed to correct. Yes, Widman, do *not* remove them.

Sometimes my typos amaze even me. I have no idea where "pack back"
came from. It should be "put back," of course.

Day dreaming Ken about past pleasant memories out in the wide open
