Is there a way to get it to open to C: instead of to My Documents?

Use the following command in the 'Target:' pane for the Windows Explorer
shortcut:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:

Hi cmar,

You can create a shortcut to, or simply copy, the following file, and put
the shortcut or copied file wherever you want. (Note that the extension
might be hidden, but if you sort the files by Type, in Details View, the file
type is "Windows Explorer Command", and is about 1 KB in size).

C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.scf
