Windows Explorer, My Computer, My NW Places "hang" -- HELP!!!

D

David137

I have the following problems:

Right click on My Computer - XP with SP1 hangs - CPU goes
to 100% then down, requires reboot because nothing shows
in Task Manager to kill

Right Click on My Network Places (after clicking on
Start) and same as above (I have already done everything
in KB825826, in particular #16, which addresses this
directly)

Heres the big one -- open Windows Explorer and just click
on File or on Edit and it hangs, can kill with Task
Manager, (it shows WE not responding), -- also same
problem if right click on any of the folders in Explorer
(BTW, clicking on Help, Tools, etc. does show menu so
this should not be the bug about windows effects (I have
already disabled menu as per KB819101 with no change in
this problem).

I do have 821557 installed (noticed Kelly mentioned this
in one thread). I unintstalled and still have problem.

Thanks for any help :)

the bad news could be you need to reinstall. as a bug ,you
could call it, from internet explorer updates as singles
can cause the windows explorer to get unstable and crash in
some systems for whatever reason . and don't forget to turn
on the xp firewall before reconnecting to the net for all
of those updates to go back in. but before anything
drastic, you could scan for spyware using spybot at
safer-networking.org ,download, update and scan using easy
mode and remove any junk. as windows explorer and internet
explorer are the same thing.

Lisa,

Thanks, I have SpySweeper running all the time, scan
everyday, and Norton Security and Antivirus and all kinds
of other stuff to keep this from happening. Funny thing
is that it works on my other 3 XP machines ???
