Windows Explorer freezing up

When ever I first turn on my PC and open Windows Explorer as soon as I right
click on any file or folder the WE seizes and I can do nothing with it. I
have to use task manager, which indicates windows explorer is not responding,
to close WE. When I reopen WE it works perfectly. Not a major problem but
closing WE with the task manager looses icons at the bottom right of the
taskbar.

Anyone got a solution please?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Did your startup speed improved? I noticed a marked improvement on my startup
speed after disabling some shell extensions.

I disabled 18 "shells" so yes start up speed was noticably shorter. I still
may have to reinstate some though.
Once again thanks for all the help

As for me I disabled only one shell extension, the Shell Extension for CDRW a
UDF Shell Extension, Ahead software AG InCD from Ahead Software AG.

You disabled 18 shells, I only have 21 Context Menus 11 non Microsoft. If
you clicked the column header "Type", the Type column will be in aphabetical
order you'll see Context Menus one after the other in one group. I'm afraid
you may have disabled non Context Menus.
