Rename a large file

I have a a 8.2 GB vidoe file that I want to rename. When I right click on
the file name, Windows Explore hangs and I have to go into the Task Manager
to Kill it. Is there are file size limit I am exceeding? I am running XP
Pro SP3.

Try waiting a few minutes after the right
click and see if the freeze goes away.

When you right click to rename the file, the file must be read by the
operating system - every bit!

Your computer has not frozen. It is just doing as you asked it to - working!

Closely related. People leave a DVD in the tray. When they open My Computer
it takes a long time to read the DVD (especially if it a data DVD with
thousands of files). You will see the spinning ball until the entire disk
has been read.

Try [F2] key instead.

But after a few minutes I get a Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft
Windows error message and Windows Explored is exited.

Why - this Is is a .avi file I downloaded from my video cam.

I'm not denying that, but...why would it need to do that? All it needs
to do to rename the file is to change its directory entry.

Umm...in that case it would be reading the entire directory tree. No
question, in a DVD with lots and lots of files that will take a while.
