Windows Defender installed with GDI+ now class no recognized issue

Managed to get Defender installed on a Windows 2000 professional SP4
machine, with the GDI+ update from Microsoft , installed the
gdiplus.dll into %systemroot\System32 as per instructions.

Defender installed ok, rebooted, the program will load, but when it
attempts to update its signature files I get a "Windows Defender is
unable to complete the update; 0x80040154, class not recognized" and
the program won't update.

The signature version listed is 1.0.0.0 built 2006-01-25, 1:29pm, as
this is Beta program, has anyone been able to update this program using
Windows 2000?

I placed the gdiplus.dll into the system32 file, but I was reading in
the redist.txt file from the GDI+ download that for Windows 2000;
"For Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0 and
Windows 98, install gdiplus.dll into the private directory of the
application not into the system directory. " Not sure what they are
meaning, and I have seen other posts to ignore this and place the dll
into the system32 folder.

Since it's not working with the DLL where it is, try moving it to the
application folder and see whether that makes a difference. If it's a
competently-written application, it should work with the DLL in either
location, but that's a big "if".
