Windows Defender Continues to Detect A Change

Hello,

I have a problem with Windows Defender I hope someone can help me out with.
I have just installed a program on my computer (ERUNT) to backup my registry
hive. I got it from a local computer tech. in town, and he told me that I
should also put a shortcut to the .exe file in the startup folder for all
users so that when my computer starts up for the first time each day, no
matter who starts it, the registry hives get backed up.

The problem I'm having is that Windows Defender detects this as a change
every scan it does, even though I have allowed it multiple times. I tried
adding it to the "Do Not Scan the Following Files or Paths" section under
General Settings, but I was unable to add the shortcut, as every time I add
the shortcut, Defender assumes I want to ignore the actual .exe file.

The path of the shortcut is C:\Documents & Settings\All
Users\Startup\autoback.lnk. The path of the actual file is C:\Program
Files\ERUNT\autobackup.exe.

Is there any way to prevent Defender from scanning the .lnk file without
having it ignore the entire startup folder?

Thanks

Not the way Windows Defender is currently set up, as far as I can tell.

If you search the .General group for posts from techie007--that poster was
able to manage this via a registry edit. This isn't something I can
recommend, though.

I read that reply, and it looks like something I would like to try as it
seems that he had the same problem I do, and I plan on making a registry
backup prior to making the change in case there's a problem. The one thing I
am wondering though is how do I set it so that I am able to make changes to
that key in the registry?

Thanks
