I am constantly getting a Microsoft error report box opening stating that
there have been unexpected errors in software I have used recently and giving
a list of CardSpace Application Errors, and asking me to send the report to
Microsoft. I have no idea what this program is, and have certainly not
intentionally used it. Can I safely remove it? Or is it likely to be a virus?
I have XP version 5.1 build 2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300; service pack 2.
Can anybody help, please?
Here's some information about Windows CardSpace you might want to take a look at
to confirm that it isn't a Windows feature you use.

Windows CardSpace is included with Microsoft's .NET Framework 3. 0 and 3.5. I
don't believe you can uninstall the CardSpace feature separately. To remove it,
you would have to uninstall the .NET Framework versions noted above. The
downside of doing this is that it's possible that some programs installed on
your computer rely on .NET Framework to operate properly. Uninstall the
framework, and those applications won't work.
You could try uninstalling and then reinstalling .NET Framework 3.0 and 3.5.
Check Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs to see what versions are installed
on your computer.

Another approach would be to disable the Windows CardSpace service by doing the
following;
Go to Control Panel and open Administrative Tools.
Double click Services and scroll down near the bottom of the list.
In the Services console, right click Windows CardSpace and select Properties
from the menu.
Hit the Stop button and change the Startup type to disabled.
Click OK.
If none of these suggestions helps, you might want to go into the Administrative
Tools folder and check Event Viewer to see if it offers any clues as to the
problem you're having with Windows CardSpace.
Good luck
