How Do I recover DVD option

R

Rick

I have been making and burning movie's to DVD for months now and all of a
sudden I lost the option to burn to DVD WHY ?.

I have ver. 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp_sp2_qdr.070227-2254 service pack 2
on Win/XP home edition.

I know it's no longer a standalone program, it's part of service pack 2 but
everytime I try to reinstall service pack 2 it says already installed, So
what can I do ?.

This is on my desktop (No DVD option)

My laptop works fine but less stable ( without autosave I would be lost)

The version on Laptop is
5.1 (build 2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300 : service pack 2)

Hopefully someone out there can help me recover whatever is lost, please help.

I can copy & burn to DVD on the desktop but for some unknown reason that
option is no longer in Movie maker ?.
Thanks for any help Rick

WMM has never had a "Burn to DVD" option.

You must have been using a third-party application which has gone south on you.

BTW........Version 5.1 is your WindowsXP OS version.

WMM would be version 2.1 most likely.

Nero or Ulead or Roxio would be examples of third-party apps which allow burn to
DVD functionality.

Hi Gord
Could you maybe explain how to get that function back, Whatever program it
uses ??, The website description does say you can burn to DVD in moviemaker,
I am just totally confused, is this a back handed way to promote win/vista
??.
Thanks for any help offered Rick

Just wondering if you tried doing a System
Restore to a time before the option to burn
DVDs disappeared?

Are you running the version of Windows XP
described in the following article and newsletter?

Hi John
Not sure about my version, I never thnk much about it until it don't work, I
did a restore back before the problem started, but it did not fix it, I
have Roxio 9 on here and burn (Copy) disks all the time with no problem, it
seems to me I had to buy an add on in the past for this but I just can't
remember what, this machine was new in Dec/o4 and I don't know if MM was
doing DVDs then or not ?.
Anyway I will go check out that article and report back if it's fixed.
It's too bad microsoft used to be very dependable about downloads, Now they
seem to have hidden MM in service pack 2 and that's part of Vista !, Don't
know about the rest of you but it makes me sick Bill Gates has to charge soo
much to upgrade, They are really screwing us over now that they are
Billionaires ?.

My error. Was speaking only for WindowsXP and WMM.

I have not used the Media Center edition of WindowsXP so did not realize that
edition had DVD-burn function for WMM

Over to John and PapaJohn<g>

The DVD burning option is only available for the Media Center Edition of XP,
the version I use on my laptop.... I just checked and found the option to
save to DVD isn't there anymore.... it used to be, and I don't know why it's
gone.

It's something I don't use at all, except to write articles about how it
works... or doesn't. So I didn't even know it was gone until I checked
before responding to this thread. I use other DVD making software.

The feature is added by the computer OEM, not by the original installation
of the operating system... it's on some MCE systems and not on others. On
mine, when it was there, it's a Sonic plug-in for Movie Maker, added by HP
during computer manufacture.

A system restore might get it back.
