windows cannot open file .icm

Am trying to install the driver for an Acer AL1706 LCD monitor from their
website. The device manager shows the monitor as a Plug and Play. When I
try to update the driver using the extracted file I get the subject error
message. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Followed steps as outlined. When I tried the "right click>install" on the
..inf file, the screen blinks and when I check the Device Manager, it still
shows the Monitor as Plug and Play. I then try to install the ICC porfile
file and I get the subject error. The puzzling part to me is when I choose
the extracted file for the update, the OK button is not greyed out but after
I click it the screen comes up "Cannot Continue Hardware Update Wizard. I
talked with Acer earlier and the conversation ended up with, "as long you
have the .inf file it shuld be no problem unless your XP is corrupted". I'm
not sure I buy into that yet.

You should be able to Right click the .icm file > click "Install Profile" in the popup menu. If install is not available in the menu, copy the .icm file to
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color and it should then be available.
