windows 2000 boots to a blue screen

Bill Lynn

I accidentlly moved a file or did something bad because
now my computer boots to a blue screen with no messages,
it's just blue. The black "starting windows" screen
appears and the progress bar on the bottom completes but
the screen then goes blue.

I am able to boot with the windows 2000 cd and do a repair
process and the computer will boot normally "once", the
next time I start it goes to the blue screen. I have to
let the repair process examine all three choices'"BOOT
SECTOR", STARTUP SECTOR" and "SYSTEM FILES"(fast repair),
if I check only boot or startup it does not fix anything.

I loaded another windows 2000 into the second partition "D
DRIVE" and it boots fine but the programs in the "C DRIVE"
won't run.

Can you boot into Windows by choosing the "Safe Mode with Networking"
option? (hit F8 after the BIOS screen)
If so, then when you log in:

- Scan for spyware

- Disable all start-up items in the registry:
Q137367: Definition of the RunOnce Keys in the Registry
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=137367

If this does not resolve your problem, then .....
- Disable all third-party browser extensions
- Open Internet Explorer
- Clear the checkbox for "Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart)" found in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
- Restart

Jason:
I get the same results when booting in SAFE MODE, any safe
mode.

Any other ideas.

Thanks

You can try my previous steps in normal mode....you mentioned that you get
one OK login after a full repair.
Also, I would run SFC /SCANNOW from the CMD prompt as a FIRST step when you
login.

Are you using any third-party hardware drivers? You can try uninstalling
hardware to see if there are bad drivers present
Are you using antivirus software, disable it.
