window xp not starting from recovery cd

My window XP failed to boot and the black screen with the choises came up:
window will start normaly in 30 sec or you can start safe mode, command, last
good running window etc. Doesn't matter which key I am hitting the next widow
will be the list of Partition)1) drivers 32 ...etc. window will start for a
sec one beep and than again the choises. Safe mode wont start. Same thing if
recovery CD is in.

When I hit F10 key it gave me 2 choise: 1. normal 2. check hard drive
integrity.
I chech hard drive and that comes up the error: unmountable _boot_volume.
Tech info: STOP: 0x000000ED(0x8A054030) 0x0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000.
I lokked it up at support but all ask for the recovery CD and after hitting
Alt and D key to get to the command to type in Chkdsk C\r: but the computer
will not go there and I cant type anything in because the comman promt never
come up.
What is your suggestion? I ma not a tecknitian please explain in plain
English. I have some very important file on the drive but if I can't save
that I would like to reinstall the window but how if it is not starting the
recovery cd?

Since, as you say, you are not technically minded, I recommend you do this
in the following order:

1. Take the machine to a computer-literate friend, then ask him to remove
your hard disk and connect it as a slave disk to his own machine so that you
can salvage your files. Remember to save your EMail files too, and to test
if they are useable.

2. Take the machine to a computer repair shop and get them to check it out.
They may have to replace the disk, then reload Windows and all applications.

3. Think about your backup strategy. Important files must always be kept on
not less than two independent media. A 2.5" disk in an external USB case is
a low-cost but highly effective backup medium. Keept it in a safe place well
away from your PC while not actually backing up files.

I can do little things just dont understand the tech language very well.
Does it matter to what kind of computer I hook up this hard drive as a slave?
I have an old compact with two hard drive one is a 6Gb slave. Can I change
that for this to get the files out? This was from a gateway510 XL 3-4 ysr old
pentium 4 mashine.
I also thinking to get a new hard drive install and hook up this as a slave
to get the files out. Do I need a the file recovery software? to get the
files out from the old hard drive?
Some website suggested to freez the hard drive and put it back for getting
the files out. Is that working?

It needs to be a computer that can handle whatever type of drive you have;
i.e., ATA/SATA.

You'd be better off getting a USB external drive enclosure and putting your
drive in there, then connecting to the other computer.

If there is nothing wrong with the target hard drive, you don't need any
kind of data recovery software. Do as previously suggested and simply copy
your files over to another hard drive on a working computer. Freezing the
hard drive is a last-ditch technique that sometimes works on a hard drive
that has physically failed. Doing it on a working hard drive would just be
Wrong.

As has been previously suggested, you really ought to consider taking your
machine to a local computer professional to do all this for you. It will
not be very expensive and it will get done right. I don't recommend using a
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place.

Thanks! I took the computer to Fry's and they installed a new hard drive for
me I am installing the windows now. Boy so many updates!!! But they suggested
the same for the old hard drive to get the files down to buy a closer for it
and run with USB from outside. I will do that after I installed everything
the latest in windows on the new HD and I will post here. Thanks again. You
