win98 & XPhome ICS problems

I'm a fairly techy person but this one has me stumped.
Maybe I'm trying to do the impossible.

Two machines networked AOK (share files, etc works great)
one is XPHome and the other 98se. I made the XPHome the
host for Internet via a dialup connection. It uses the
internet fine. Win98se machine I told to connect through
the LAN. It cannot bring up anything but the ERROR
finding site page.

WIN98se machine can do a dialup and work fine on it's own
but these people want to both be on at the same time thus
need to share. Any ideas? I have made sure the ICS files
were there (extracted them direct from the CD even). The
only variable I'm not familiar with is that their ISP gave
them a disk to set up the original dialup and it does not
create a dialup connection in dialup networking until you
dialup the first time. It also has no add/remove feature
or I would delete it entirely.

The 98se computer doesn't use dialup when connecting to the Internet
using its Ethernet network connection to the XPHome computer.

Configure 98se as an Internet Connection Sharing client as shown here:

any client should connect fine connectin g to ICS via win98se or winxp
things you'll need
1. IP address of xp home box

to set up a successful connection:
1. win98se has it's own ics make sure it's disabled
2. get into your network properties in win98se you'll need to access
the properties <network adapter> TCP/IP (if it's not installed add it,
if you see any adapters saying Internet connection sharing delete
them)
3. obtain IP address autom, atically should be selected
4. wins disable
5. gateway should be youe win xp IP
6. DNS should be your win xp IP (optionally use can use youe ISP's dns
for secondary, but not necessary)
7. restart youer win98SE box and try to connect to the Internet
