Win2K Pro & Win98se Wireless Networking Question

TJ

Installed new NetGear WPNT834 Wireless Router. Have a Win2K Pro Laptop and
Win 98se Desktop machines connected via Ethernet cables. Both machines can
see and access Shares on either machine perfectly via Ethernet cables.

When I take the Laptop Wireless, the Laptop can see the Win98se machine
through My Network Places / Entire Network, but cannot access it. I get an
error message saying the "\\TBlack is not accessible. The specified server
cannot perform the requested operation."

The Win98se machine cannot see pr access the Win2K Pro machine when the
Laptop is wireless. Both machines however pass the Ping test in both
directions and both machines can access the Internet perfectly.

I am out of ideas after two days of reading and trying...can anyone please
point me in the correct direction that will allow these machines to Network
when the Laptop is wireless? TIA!

OK, while the Laptop is wireless, the Win98se machine can now access the
shares on the Laptop, but the Win2K Pro machine cannot see or access the
shares on my Win98se machine. I still get the message "\\TBlack is not
accessible. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation."

Do I need to restart the Network on the Win2K machine?

Is Win98se blocking the access for some reason?

Thanks for your help!

Robert,

Welcome and same to you!

Question....would installing RIP on Win2K machine and enabling RIP on the router helped the Win2K machine in resolving the addressing issue?

Thanks

Robert,

Using the Internet, if I wanted to set up a Wireless Win2K Laptop to be able
to connect to my home desktop Win98se machine through a router, what is the
best & most efficient way to do so, VPN, NetBIOS direct, or something else?

My ISP has assigned a static IP address and I have a new RangeMax 240 NetGear router.

Please advise where I can find the set up procedures.

Thanks

Tom
