Win xp is recognized as win 95 in update

When I go to winupdate, I end up in the win 95 section. I have xp
proffesional 2002 sp3. Same thing happens when I want to access my bank, I am
told to change os to xp. When I go to hotmail I´m told to update my ie but it
is already ie7.
Any suggestions?

Ignore the "mac" bit and see if this helps -

Windows Update page says "Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates
from our site."

I´ve seen this solution before but "ignoring the mac bit" never ocurred to me.
