Win Xp Home doesn't restart

Suddenly for no reason that I can trace my computer will not restart either
when given the option to restart after an update or by going through start
,turn off ,restart
It shuts down properly but then will not restart. How do I troubleshoot this
problem?

Most MS updates that require a restart do a restore point. Reboot in safe
mode and restore to that point or the one before it if it doesn't work the
first time. I also create my own sys ck/pt from time to time after or before
updating other type of programs. Sometimes MS does install a bad update but
they will correct it when made aware of problem, call them after you get your
system back-up.
