Win XP Freezes

I have a Dell 2400 desktop computer with Win XP. I have all the
spyware/adaware and Norton security software loaded and current. Lately,
when I connect to my SBC DSL and immediately attempt to open any application,
the computer freezes. The OS does not respond to Ctrl-Alt-Del, mouse, etc.
I have to actually unplug the machine and turn it back on to get it to
reboot. Does this sound like an XP issue or some other software? Have tried
the restore and it does not resolve problem.

Have you been to the Dell website to see if any other 2400
desktop users have experienced similar issues ?

Is the system in warranty ?

Is that the ONLY time the system locks up ?

No, I haven't tried Dell...don't know if I can handle working with someone
from India!
Really believe it's a MS problem. System is under warranty. Seems to be a
relationship between the DSL connection and MS, but just don't know where the
problem resides.

I think I am having a similar problem. I have an HP laptop running Windows
XP, SP2 and it is hanging almost constantly no matter what I do. The hard
drive seems to be constantly running and it takes at least several minutes
for anything to open. I did all the usual spyware and things with nothing
out of the ordinary. I started House Call to check for viruses and it has
been running for about 18 hours now (it is that slow).

Yes, it sounds as though you do have the same symptoms I have been
experiencing. What is House Call? Is it a software that searches for
viruses and if so, how can I get it?
Thanks for the input.

It may be your sbc browser if that's what you're using. try firefox and see
if it continues. I stopped using my sbc browser because of that , my guess as
to the cause was the display settings reccomended for the sbc browser, but I
don't know for sure. I have also had less infections as well, I think the sbc
browser is built on ie but I'm not sure about that either but using firefox
solved my problem.
