XP freezes in programs

XP freezes whenever I enter my programs. Usally in about 10-15 seconds. I
try Ctrl,Alt, Del and a window appears but I cannot escape this window so I
must power the computer off. I have updated Norton, Spyware and Adaware.
Everything else from internet to other windows work fine. Any suggestions?
Have noticed that Windows is taking longer to start up. Was instant, now 3-5
minutes.

hi
try to load your XP in safe mode
unload unneeded apps with the "msconfig" utillity.
scan again with antivirus app, ad-aware, try to download "hijackthis.exe"
from the net and run it.
*all in safe mode!!!*
run full "checkdisk" and "defrag" on your HD
