Win XP & CD-RW Failure

B

Bob Parsons

After installing XP Version 2002 my PC shuts down when CD-
RW is used, then restarts and displays message saying my
PC has just recovered from a serious Error. Crashes were
reported to MS and reply was made that source of problem
was a driver, but no specifics could be offered. The PC
was purchased with Windows 98 and CD-Rom. Internal CD-RW
was added later. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the
software it uses, ahead Nero and InCD w/o remedy.

Hi Bob,

Use one of the three options.

Right Click the My Computer Icon/Properties/Advanced/
Performance/Settings/Advanced/Change. Set Page File to 0, ok your way out
and reboot. Then follow the same procedure and reset the Page File to
System Managed File.

Right Click the My Computer Icon/Properties/Advanced/
Performance/Advanced/Virtual Memory/Change/No Page File. Reboot. Then
delete C:\Pagefil.Sys then revert the page file setting.

Right Click the My Computer Icon/Properties/Advanced/
Performance/Advanced/Virtual Memory/Change. Set the swap file size to zero,
reboot. Re-set to System Managed, reboot. Reset the Custom setting,
reboot.

I just discovered your response to my appeal for help.
Your first solution was tried w/o success but possibly
because I didn't know how to set page file to 0. I
clicked on "No Files" in the Advanced change boxe and the
numbers that had appeared were grayed out. Tomorrow I plan
to restore the drive to previous settings and then may try
one of your other suggestions. If you can provide
instructions for setting File to 0 I might try the first
choice again. After I posted the problem and the PC
vrashed again I was sent a message that said Error 1316 A
network error occurred while attempting to read from the
File C:\Windows\Installer\nero Burning Rom.msc Fatal
error during installation.
