Subj: Win Help wants Password!

Spec: WIN XP PRO (SP2), FAT 32, 256 MB RAM, Celeron 2.66 GHz | Explorer
6.0.2900.2180 | I/E 6.0.2900.2180.

This morning, when I pressed F1 on DeskTop for Help, I got a mostly blank Help
page w/ following Windows type error pop-up message box superimposed on top:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Content Advisor - hcp://system

Sorry! Content Advisor will not allow you to see this site.
This page may contain some or all of the following:

"This page does not have a rating" (<-- this was in a box)

If you still want to see this site, someone must type in the supervisor
password. (<--- language in this sentence is just a bit odd)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Although the message looks fairly professional, it doesn't quite feel or
look genuine (also, I'd never seen it before). But then, who can say.
I have a feeling I may have caught a bug off the net. In any case, if
it's genuine, please advise. If not genuine, please read on...

I finally gave in and ticked on one of the 3 choices (think it was some
thing like" "Always allow access to this site") and now there's no more
pop-up message and Help comes up OK. I was afraid to mess with this at
first as I thought it might open me up to some virus site. Never know.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are some of the events (related or not) that have occurred since
yesterday
and that might have contributed to this problem (if it is that).

1. Yesterday had an email problem with the downstairs computer on this small
home network here. I couldn't get message to go out to multiple recipients;
but
1 or 2 OK. In Yahoo, later got 2 delivery failure notices prefixed w/
"mailer-
daemon...". I knew this was a bug but clicked on it to fast. Later deleted
both.

In Hotmail, it didn't like one or more of the addresses. At both sides I kept
losing my work and addresses (not in address book yet) and back to square 1.
Heck of a waste of time and ultimately, looked like only got thru to one
party.

2. Yesterday, as usual, downloaded some files and aps from the net, the links
to which I got from Google. Mainly I was looking for some VB code and easy
way to create message boxes. I also downloaded a lot of help info on Windows
from a number of helpful sites.

Found 3 sites w/ "Message-Box-Create" aps. A couple of these sites looked
way outdated to extinct and one gave me the runaround pretty bad before I got
to the download. I got a feeling one of these 3 downloads at least may have
been infected but it could have been from elsewhere too.

Tried all 3 but installed only 2 of the programs initially (to THIS computer
only) and the one which looked like the best one (full help files, etc.)
wouldn't work (VB error on run) as I think the code was to old already for
the new VB in XP. The 3 sites and aps were:

(a) CebraSoft ---> Visual Basic Message Box Builder, Version 1.0
Link: "http://www.totalshareware.com/asp/linktoitem.asp?id=25045"
(OK but I'm confused about having to add "context" when add the
"Help" option. Can't get that option to work).

(b) ADV Digital ---> Visual Basic Message Creator (installed this - AOK)
(best but least options. Simple. Works OK)

(c) WinSite --> Message Box Wizard (Outdated & not for XP. Uninstalled)
Date 24 Nov 97
Runs onWin 95/98/ME
File Size 952K
Submitted By R Brown
Company: ByteSoft

(I'm not pushing this stuff - just wondering if anyone had bug problems with
these and maybe can recommend some better one to me)

3. I only really have 1 account on this upsatairs comp. The other day I set it
up w/ a short password and hint. Yesterday I removed the password (to bother
some) but left the hint, I think. Anyway, all went well.

Today, about 2 hours ago, there was a power failure (no UPS on this comp). The
error which is the subject of this post, occurred just a little while ago,
when
I pressed "F1" for Help on DeskTop.

4. Should say that also had a crappy (intermittent) Windows type keyboard
(a 1 yr old clone). Sometimes no response to key-presses. Replaced that
this morn w/ used, regular type keyboard, about 1 hr before clicked F1.

5. Ran McCaffee on downstairs comp yesterday, after that email bug. Nothing.
Ran McAffee and AVG on THIS comp here yesterday and today. All OK.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you've read this far, then maybe the pop-up is a bug after all. If so, how
to check and trash. Anti-virus is active and doesn't detect anything.

Appreciate any advice on this.

Thank you,

Ted...

PS - On my way here and as I browsed along, etc., I got the same pop-up about
a dozen times (I think). It makes me wonder now if I or someone changed some
Internet Security, Privacy or similar options that might be the cause of
this.
OK. Since I can get into 'Help' now, I'd best check on 'Content Advisor' -
but
if I'm wrong, I might as well post this to be sure.

Just found another possible right here under "WindwsXP Pro and unwanted
Content
Advisor" post. Things are looking up...

Ted...

that is your "content advisor" looking for input from you to rate pages...if
you turn it off under IE>tools>content it will stop bothering you :>

Thanx, Haggis. Believe it or not, figured it out all by my lonesome already
before coming back here. Really stupid of me. Never paid any attention to
that menu set and didn't know what it meant! Panicked. Thought I'd caught a
bug. Found it in MS HELP (F1), 'though. Putting in for a brain transplant
first thing in morning.

Sorry to bother. Appreciate. I feel red all over...
