Win 2000 reinstall stuck !!!

R

rasta

I am attempting a reinstall of Win 2000 Pro.
I have gotten to : Please wait while setup installs
components.
The status bar gets to : Configuring COM+
and then the installation stops. I let it run for several
hours and it will
no go past this point.

How do I get around this ?

I shut the system down and rebooted several times.
Each time I reboot the system says : Setup is being
restarted
and then asks for the set up disc again. I reinsert the
disc and
again get to the same place.

I am a novice here and may have done something stupid.

Is it because I have a previous version of Win 2000 ?

I have gone into safe mode at start up and no selection
lets me get
past the message : and to insert the disc again and on
and on I go . . .

Is there any way to just get back into my original OS ?

Any help is so very appreciated. Thank You.

Have you tried :

1. Booting up using the Last Known Good configuration?
2. REPAIRing your version using the ERD (you do have the ERD)? Just boot up
yoursystem using the Recovery Console(or the CD) & choose REPAIR (R) when
given the option!

Hi Ted
Thanks for responding.
I have tried booting using :
1. Last Known Good configuration
2. ERD, do not have
3. Recovery Console is unavailable
I cannot get beyond what I described below. Upon booting I
am returned to the "setup process" which is infinetely
stuck on configuring COM +.
I insert the CD to get to the repair, or any other process
besides setup and I cannot get it to stop, nor get beyond
it.

Are there any keys or commands I can give it ?????
I am not very expert here . . .
Am becoming desperate !!!!!
Any other options ?
I am very grateful for any help !!!!!!!!!

Thank You

Here is another option.

When the hang occurs, hold down the "shift" key and then press the "F10"
key. This will open a command window. Type "tskmgr" (without the
quotation marks), and then press ENTER to open Task Manager.

Click the "Processes" tab. In the list of processes, click "dllhost.exe",
and then click "End Process".

You may receive an error about COM+ setup. Just click "OK" to the error.
Now type "exit" at the command prompt. This should get the Windows 2000
setup process running again.

Hello Jaysen

I have done just as you suggest . . .
here is the result :

when holding the shift key, I press F10.
The command window opens. I typed : tskmgr
and then pressed enter. The response =

C:\WINNT\System32\inetsrv>tskmgr
'tskmgr' is not recognized as an internal or
external command, operable program or batch file.

I am grateful for your efforts, or anyones efforts. Is
there another option
to try before yanking and trashing the entire hard drive ?

Please try typing taskmgr instead of tskmgr in the CMD window. This is a
typo in my previous post.
