WiFi Connections

I have a new Gateway MX 8734 Notebook computer. For reasons unknown to both
Gateway Tech Support and everyone I have asked with knowledge of computers, I
cannot connect to the Internet at public WiFi internet sites, such as
restaurants, hotels and other similar sites. I do connect at my home via a
wireless router to my high speed bell south service connection, and here is
the kicker, I can connect at the Public library. Gateway told me all the
hardware is working properly, or I would not be able to connect at home. I
can sit next to co-workers at a restaurant , bookstore or coffee shop, and
they have no problem connecting. When I try I get a message that I am
connected to the site's server and have a "local" connection. But it won't
connect to the internet. I did recently delete one of the two
virus/security software programs, McAfee. Now I only have Norton and one
firewall working. Can anyone help. This is killing my ability to use the
computer while traveling for work.

My best guess is it’s a security setting, possibly in your firewall. I
haven't tried to connect my vista laptop to a public wifi spot yet but I
would try to disable your firewall and see if you can connect then. If so,
check your firewall settings and see if you can allow the connection.
