Widescreen concerns

Forgive me if this question is not related to Vista its just that I got a new
monitor the same time I installed Vista so I am not sure which is the issue.

Basically I dont want my games to try and fill the whole screen unless the
game is specifically designed to fill a widescreen. I would much rather have
a "windowed" screen with the rest of the monitor black.

Is that setting of my monitor which I can switch on and off? or a setting in
the OS? or a driver issue?

You don't mention what monitor you're referring to, but with my Dell
2405FPW, it's a setting in the monitor itself If I remember correctly.

I think it's an option to 'autosize' or maintain 1:1 aspect ratio.

panasonic 21" widescreen something something.

Its a pretty mainstream monitor if not more so then even the dell monitor I
bet I have that setting as well. This is good beucase Oblivion currently is
not working.

Oblivion ROCKS in widescreen. I am running it at 1650 x 1080 on my Dell
monitor.
Once the drivers get to be final, there will be an option to use the
graphics card to stretch, the monitor to stretch or to not stretch. I don't
think any of the current beta drivers have that function enabled yet...
WHat card are you using? I am using Nvidia Geforce 7600GT..and AWESOME
budget gaming card. They go for between $150-$200 for PCIe

I am so stupid. What I did was simply accept the resolution setting it found
automatically which was NOT widescreen. Once I picked the correct res I had
full widescreen!

I get some flicker when I move into the tab stuff like managing items and
its a little slow when running around outside. bright colors are also a bit
to bright but over all its great. I am running a single ATI 1600 I could go
dual but I think the slow down while outside is the response time of the
monitor while the colors is simply a driver in beta. Overall pleased.
