why won't outlook retain my password?

I ask it to remember my password, but 10 minutes later when it automatically
sends/receives again, I have to re-enter it. I get back into the email
account profile and what I typed in there is gone! I've read the regedit
solution for pop3 accounts, but this is an imap account (and besides, I like
to be sure before meddling with my registry...)
