Why My Computer was Changed to Computer in Vista

More ignorant lies from our resident side show creep.

Now, if you should nuke Vista and go for an Open Source OS, yes, you

That's gotta be the most egregiously incorrect statement you've made in
the last 5 seconds.
I'd hardly call installing a toy os as having control over anything.
But seeing as how you don't have nor can you afford Vista...nor do you
know anything about Vista from an actual hands on users experience...who
then really cares about the uninformed opinion of a linux loser troll?

That's not true at all. If the install you have is legal, they have no
recourse but to activate. Again, how many legal installs have been
denied activation or reactivation?
Noe...zero...zip...nada.

And you know this from where? You have access to call center data and
simultaneously know what the call center did not, which customers were
legal and which weren't?

Well, I like probably 99.999% of all the legal installs don't have any
problems at all concerning activation/reactivation. It's a none issue. I
do however, believe you linux boys like trying to make a mountain out of
a mole hill.

Not a mountain for me. I simply don't use an operating system with
built-in functionality to stop working and live happily ever after. =)

To be honest, I really couldn't care less how many people do or don't
experience problems with it. It's myself I primarily care about.
I've only seen the postings concerning activation/reactivate and so far,
they're all apparently been successful. Frank

Doesn't mean all the ones you have not see were however.

It's the same thing as saying "Just because all the people looking for
help in a help forum have problems, everyone has problems". We both know
this isn't true.

Like I said before, I personally don't care who does or who does not, or
how many for that matter, have problems with it. I just care that I don't
have problems with it. Most efficient way to do so is to not use it. =)

And I have to say, I am quite happy with my results. Particularly
considering I had never touched Linux in my life before MS released Vista...

I showed the beryl 3D thingie to one of my associates after I spent
about 10-15 mins flipping that damn cubie thing. Lots of fun! We thought
is was neat so he gave it to his 5 yr old son. Best baby sitter he every
had. At least for a few days. We both agreed, linux is a nice free toy!
But I have Vista, as real OS and you don't cause you can't afford it.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I whole heartily agree that linux is a much
better toy than Vista is.
That is, if you're looking for toy. I'm not and obviously neither are
97% of all computer users, but hey, there is something for everyone.
Me, I've got Vista, a real OS and you don't. But you've got a nice

So you're disproving your own point?

I'm simply saying neither one of us knows the real numbers.
If that's your most "efficient way", then good for you. I thought you
said you "needed" Microsoft in order to make a living at what you do?

I recall myself saying, more than once now, I don't need them. I mean
sure, I have to support the operating system. But in my daily workflow I
generally have very very little need for them. My office machine has not
booted into into XP for over a week now.

I can, and do, most all my work from inside Linux. Only reason I have to
look at Windows is when I want to compile the windows binary of my code.
And actually, for that purpose, I am seriously contemplating just running
Microsoft's command-line C/C++ compiler via Wine. Should be no problem.

Then I don't even have to boot into Windows for that either.

I think just about the only thing I "need" Windows for is my 3D CAD/CAM
stuff as my favorite package is currently windows only. That is something
though I do so little, like a week every several months, that it isn't
really anything major. It does bug me though.
And I am quite happy to say I've touched linux many times long before

The vast majority of computer users just simply don't know better ;)

That's changing. People are becoming more computer savvy and more hip to
Microsoft's scams. At least in Spain, anyway. We've had a computer store
chain offering Linux on their machines for years. Dell just got the
idea. Then again, most spambots originate in the USA from Windows boxes
so go figure. I don't need a clock to know that users in the USA are
awake. All I have to do is look at my inbox.

Sophos releases a "Dirty Dozen" of top spamming countries, if you look at their
earlier results around 2004, you'd see that at one time the US was responsible for
the majority of spam. However, that percentage has been falling steadily.
If you scroll down on the page at the first link, you'll see that Europe is now the
leading continent for sending spam. China, which once rivaled the US in spam,
has seen a dramatic reduction, mostly due to the "great firewall of China" aka
The Golden Shield project.

I think my deduction is much more accurate than yours.

It's simple. When the USA is asleep, I hardly get any spam. When the USA
awakens, spam starts filling my inbox.

Perhaps, if you were smarter about using your email address
and which sites you give it out to, then you wouldn't receive
so much spam. You could use a "throw away" address for all
those porn, pill, and gambling sites you visit on a regular basis.
Also, learning how to use filters properly and junk mail controls,
would help alleviate your inbox overcrowding.... certainly you
are smart enough to take control of your inbox. Right?

I think my deduction is much more accurate than yours.

*shrug* you think..I think...does it really matter? Nope.

Bugs you that you still need MS, huh? So in truth, you really like or

Just going to answer it all in at once.

No I don't "need" Microsoft. If I used their technologies I would need
them. If I wrote my software to only run on Windows I would need them.

However, since this is not the case, I don't need them. My software is
capable of running on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. So if Microsoft were to
disappear tomorrow, it wouldn't hurt me. Quite the contrary, it would make
my life easier as I would no longer need to support them.

So MS, for me, is better described as a thorn in my side I'd really like
to just get rid of.

The CAD/CAM stuff I still use windows for actually is rather irrelevant.
It only contributes maybe a mere fraction to what I make for a living. I
can easily do without. It's more of a hobby that turned into the
occasional work related activity than anything else.
