Why is the underline covering the bottom of text in some fonts?

In PowerPoint 2007, the underline format sometimes places the line such that
it overlaps with the bottom of the text in a way that makes reading the text
difficult. Any thoughts about why this happens? So far, I have noticed it
with GillSans and Minion fonts, but not with Times New Roman or Arial fonts.
This is different from Office 2003, in which I consistently used underlined
GillSans text without a problem.

Thanks!

This is our description of the issue:

Installing a local printer driver usually resolves the issue. That FAQ has a
link to instructions to do that.
