Why Enable NetBuei?

Mike

I have a home network using linksys dsl router, three W2K pro PCs.
TCP/IP, file and printer sharing and netbeui are enabled.
Originally, the network included a Win98SE pc. Should I disable
netbuei? What does netbuei do? I no long have my networking
reference material.

NetBEUI is a non-routeable network protocol. If you are running TCP/IP
in your network it is - in most cases - obsolete to run NetBEUI. It's
a dieing protocol (and the sooner the better).

No, you need NetBIOS for Win9x (and probably even for Win2003/XP)
but you really don't require NetBEUI any longer.

Unless you have an older application that cannot use TCP/IP, you don't need
NetBEUI in Windows 98 SE (or in Windows 95, 98, NT, XP, 2000, 2003).
