cannot ping or see w2k from xp

Hi I have a simple home network with netgear router
(192.168.0.1) xp(192.168.0.3) and w2k (192.168.0.2). My
w2k belongs to a corporate domain but my laptop is on
default workgroup. Untill last week when I installed
couple of windows updates I was able to connect and file
share between xp and w2k.

Now, my w2k is able to ping and see xp but xp cannot
search or ping w2k. it is weird as I can even use vnc on
xp and connect to it from w2k but all this happens only in
one direction.

I have scanned through many posting on xp-w2k networking
issue.

these this the context,
1. router is running firewall.
2. xp and w2k don't
3. things were working fine untill last week.
4. netbuei over tcp ip is enabled on both.
5. ping and tracert times out.

thanks in advance!!!

Also, I suspect that this is happening after installation
of patch "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB824105)
on sep 10"

No, that's not the problem. Both XP Professional and XP Home Edition
support networking.

Did you install any other programs around that time? Some antivirus vendors
are starting to include firewalls with their antivirus products, so you may
have installed one without realizing it. If not, can you post the results
of "ipconfig /all" from BOTH machines, and label each one so we know which
computer is which.
