Why does Windows Mail launch MS Word when an email addres is click

When I receive an email which contains an email address in the body of the
message and I double click on that address Microsoft Word is launched?

What I expected to happen is that a Windows Mail "New Message" window will
be opened, with the "To" field pre-populated with the email address that I
double clicked on.

Why does it do this ?

Is it possible to change the behavior to do what I expect?

Thanks,

It probably means that Windows Mail doesn't have all its defaults assigned.
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Windows
Mail". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

If you just need to change one setting, go to Tools, Accounts, select that
account, Properties. The various tabs you see there contain all the settings.

Or, from the same screen you can click 'Remove' which deletes that account,
then click 'Add' to have the new account wizard step you through the setup process.
