Why does Windows Mail launch MS Word on address double click?

I have Windows Mail. If I receive an email which contains an email address
embedded within the body of the email and I double click on that email
address then it launches MS Word. The behavior I would expect is for it to
open a new email within Windows Mail and populate the Send address with the
address that I double clicked on.

Why does this happen?

Is there a way to make it open a new mail within Windows Mail rather than
launching MS Word?
