Why does it take so long after hitting "Reply" in email?

I have used Outlook 2000 without problems for years on a Windows 2000
operating system PIII 750 machine without problems. I have now built a new
machine with a P4 3.4 and have installed Outlook 2003. The problem I am now
having is when hitting "Reply" to reply to a message which contains
images/pictures, it is taking sometimes 30 seconds or more to bring up the
email window so I can begin my reply. Even with just one small graphic it
takes around 10 seconds. The more the graphics the longer it seems to take.
It also doesn't matter if I dowload images first as it still takes a very
long time. As an example, when I try to reply back to people who send me
PayPal payments (HTML format with the PayPal grahpics) it takes over 30
seconds to bring up the window and durning this time Outlook 2003 is "dead"
and doesn't respond.

Is this a bug? Is there a fix? Please help! Thanks!

The first thing to try is disabling Person Names Smart Tags at the bottom of
Tools>Options>Other.

Thanks, Brian! However, I figured it out this morning!

When Outlook 2003 is installed it defaults to using Word 2003 for the
default email editor. I turned that off and BINGO, problem solved! What is
weird is that it takes less than 1 second to opn Word 2003 so why does it
take 30 seconds and sometimes more than 60 seconds to open an email that I'm
replying to. Even if it were opening Word each time in the background it
should not take this long. At any rate, I have turned off this "feature" and
the email now comes up INSTANTLY when I hit the "Reply" button with ANY type
of message including HTML type messages.

This appears to be a bug or at least I would think there should be something
in the knowledge base about this.
