Why can't I buy Vista?

M

Mike Brannigan

Bob,

Windows Vista was scheduled to be available to business customers in
2006 - and it is.
The consumer availability date - was never announced until much later
and it is as is clearly stated on the Microsoft web site - Jan 30th
2007.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/default.aspx
Where on the front page it states.
"...Wondering if you should buy a new PC this holiday or wait for
Windows Vista (which will be broadly available January 30, 2007)? ..."

LOL... youre a real moron bob. keep using windows 98... probably suits you

-Microsoft is run by incompetent morons worried by non core functions.
-Microsoft is specifically asking retailers not to presell or preorder.
-My source in Microsoft confirms it will be delayed again. This is the same
source that predicted this latest shipping delay 18 months ago.

Bob,

Just because you feel unable to buy something while others can, just
as businesses, anyone who want 5 or more copies under a Volume
licence, developers under MSDN subscriptions and other IT
Professionals under TechNet Plus subscriptions; this does not make it
"unavailable" - it is only not available to the group of individuals
you fall into - that of 'regular consumers'.
As is stated on both the web site and in hear many times - broad
consumer availability is Jan 30th 2007.
However it is not accurate to make a blanket statement that it is "not
available" - the correct one is "not available to people like you".

Just because a product is available to one market segment and not the
one you are in does not mean it is "not available" to all - just you.
You need to take larger view of the world.

Mike Brannigan, a Microsoft employee, guaranteed that Vista would be
available this year.

And he was right! Vista is available. I bought mine a few weeks ago.
Although they would only let me buy one license :( It seems to me Mike
didn't specify Vista would be available at a Staples near you in 2006. I
think you need to seriously reconsider how you absorb information. We all
know what happens when you ASSume something.

So quit your whining, get off your rear and go BUY Vista right now! Anyone
can do it. Go buy a volume license of Vista Business!!!! What are you
waiting for? Have you bought it yet? What's your problem? After all that
complaining you haven't gotten it yet? I guess you don't really want it?

Then its not available.

What was promised was business availability this year, broad general
availability next year. If you have a volume license agreement with MS, or
an MSDN subscription, or a Technet Plus subscription, or want to buy a
business license pack, then you can get Vista right now. That is what has
always been stated officially by Microsoft.

General availability through standard retail channels (stores, with new PC,
etc) is scheduled for January 30, 2007. Again, this is old news. See this
news release from October 13th -
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2006/Oct06/10-13VistaReleasePR.mspx.
And then this from November 8th which mentions the specific dates for
business availability (November 30, 2006) and worldwide general availability
(January 30, 2007) -
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2006/nov06/11-08VistaRTM.mspx.

So yes, Vista is available to a large sub-section of Microsoft's customer
base, but not yet general available to everyone.

Your source is wrong. Why would it be "delayed"? It's done and available
for download, just the DVDs and packaging isn't ready.

Mike:
He just can't understand that the retail version won't be available
until January 30, 2007. Vista Enterprise x86 & x64 and Office 2007 are
functioning without any problems, I just bought all the licenses that I need
at one time instead of waiting until next year. Have a great holiday season.

"My source in Microsoft..."
Please identify the verifiable source.
Without that, what you say is hearsay at the most.
Personally, I think your source is a figment of your imagination, but you
can always prove me wrong.

come on... the guy probably knows a mail-room intern that swear he overheard
a conversation.
"bob" is clearly a dumbass that cant grasp how MS releases a product.
as far as not being available... then how am i typing this message right
now?

Microsoft made a large investment when they went RTM with Vista.
There will be no delay from the January 30th date.
Your facts are just wrong!

"Microsoft is run by incompetent morons worried by non core functions."
This is only your opinion.

"Microsoft is specifically asking retailers not to presell or preorder."
The is due to the release date of January 30th and not hard to understand.

"My source in Microsoft confirms it will be delayed again. This is the same
source that predicted this latest shipping delay 18 months ago."
Doubtful at best.

1) Vista goes on sale to the general public Jan. 30, 2006 at least in my
country, preceeded and followed by a lot of launches. You can now download
RC1 free from MSFT, and although much has been made of this and I'm using
RTM and aware of the changes--I think the basics that allow you to drill the
Vista iceberg and use it productively and learn to use it more are there.

2) You can buy Vista licenses in stores now, in the US, if you buy under two
licensing plans that I've detailed elsewhere on this group at COMP USA but
this is limited now to Vista Business Edition (it began November 30, 2006)
and certain Office editions as well. You can download the iso with the
license and use it. I've explained this in detail. Do a Search For Comp USA
here. Or call your nearest Comp USA and whoever took the Vista sales course
will explain. Or call 1-800-MICROSOFT and choose the appropriate pre-sales
option M-F.

I have it on good authority that the next time Jan 30 comes, it will be in
2007 but I'm trying to check this.

Sorry for typo.
