Because it isn't available for retail yet. I don't know who promised you
that you'd have it this year, but Reality Intervenes. Find something else
more productive to complain about.

Microsoft at one time in the recent past had a projection date of late this
year, but decided to hold off on general availability till early next year
and only make it available to corporate users this year.

I've had a lot of spam on this subject, ie Vista. Auto crap from for example
(e-mail address removed) and other meaningless email addresses.Anyone else
experienced this? Unusually comes with a .gif attachment that I haven't
opened for obvious reasons. I can only think it's a virus mail of some kind.

Because whomever promised you Vista this year lied to you. It's
scheduled for retail release at the end of January 2007.

I'll be glad to sell you an authorized copy.

Due to Vista's popularity, we are running behind in order fullfillment.
Currently we have about a seven week backlog after we receive your check.

For one thing this newsgroup is about the XP OS, not Vista, so why are you
posting here? Just trolling, eh? At least post to right newsgroup, like
maybe one of the Vista newsgroups?

Who promised this to you? When? I've never heard any such promises from
anyone.

Vista was released to manufacturing on November 8, and released to corporate
clients a week or two ago. It's supposed to be available at retail outlets
on January 30.

As to the question of why the delay between release to manufacture and
retail information, I have no information, and can't help you.

A Microsoft employee named Mike Brannigan promised it would be available
this year, in this very forum. Fact is it would be available on Jan. 30th
either.

"Fact is it would be available on Jan. 30th either." What does that mean?
And what difference does it make knowing the whys and wherefors? It isn't
going to change the release date.

You probably misunderstood Mike.
Or you could point to the post where that statement was made.

Also Mike no longer works for Microsoft AFAIK.

Bob;
Vista is available now and has been for several weeks.
Major OEMs, other Partners, MSDN, TechNet, Etc. have had Vista since it went
RTM.
However most will not be able to get Vista until about 30 January 2007.

Mike no longer works for Microsoft AFAIK.
You probably misunderstood what was said.
Please post a reference to the post where the promise was made.
