Which W2K OS to open?

D

David

When I go thru the boot-cycle, I'm brought to a command
where I have to chose which Operating System I want to
run. However, I', given a choice of 2 different entries
that say "Windows 2000."
(New 'puter, with recently installed Windows 2000
operating system.)

From a cmd prompt ("MSDOS")
notepad c:\boot.ini
Copy and paste the entries here.

You may have two OS installations or something else.

Thanks for the quick reply Mark, but paste what entries?

This is marginally a "commandprompt.admin" question in any case...
....win2000.general perhaps.

Paste the entire contents of boot.ini.

rid of one of them? Thanks in advance, Mark...

I will not recommend anything not knowing what you have.

Generically you would
remove the appropriate line from boot.ini for the unused OS
installation
remove the installation directory and subdirectories for the unused
OS installation.

YMMV and I suggest you find out more before proceeding.

David,

You need to edit the BOOT.INI file and remove the one you don't want. This
is a VERY DANGEROUS operation if you don't know what you are doing. That's
why Mark suggested you paste the contents here, so we can help you decide
which one to delete. If you do this wrong your system will not boot at all.

Thanks M-List,
I'm getting the jist of what you're saying.
Both choices that I'm getting are: "Windows 2000"
I'll jot down the boot.ini info when I get home tonite,
and try to get back here tomorrow to relay.
I appreciate all the help from you and Mark...
