When I open IE instead of opening it asks to download the website?

I'm frustrated, All of a sudden when I click on IE, instead of opening to my
home page or any page, I get the little pop up dialog box asking if I want to
download the website. I of course have canceled, I can open Firefox and
Opera, but IE just wants to download something? Any clues, I've looked
through the forum but didn't find anything addressing this. I use Ad Aware
(lavasoft) and AVG for AV and update and run daily. Should I uninstall and
reinstall IE? Oh and just befor this started to happen IE went to the
microsoft update page, I clicked off of it as I was going to do somethng
else, do you think something may have gotten corrupted?
TIA

From outlook express...

Tools>options>connection tab

Hit the button marked "Change" and go to the new "General" tab

See what the home page is set to in the box there, it may just be set to the
name of a file so you can just change it to something else from there.

You have tried hitting a link have you? If not try http://www.microsoft.com
and see what happens.

Thank you Charlie, I tried what you suggested, however I wasn't able to make
the home page change in Outlook Express. I went and got MS anitspyware and
ran it, uninstalled IE and reinstalled IE and it works now. I did have a
trojan and am now running spybot, MS antispyware, and lavasoft Ad Aware along
with AVG.
Hopefully that will be the end of this problem :).

You should not have all three running in the background at the same time.

Yes, I do have them all running. I wasn't aware of MS antispyware until I
searched this forum for answers to this problem. And Ad Aware, I ran once a
week, not all of the time. Same with Spybot. That is fixed. I have an
older system and use a speciality software on it so I try to have as little
running in the background as possible, as the software I'm using is a
resource pig and will crash on me if there are other things running. This
older computer is dedicated to that software, however I still need to have
internet access on it.
Thanks again.
