Major mistake over xmas, I compacted my emails and now i do not have sent
messages older than a week.
Also, since today, most of my remaining emails in sent box have a line
through the header, why would that only appear today. Help please, I am
assuming that i have had it with the compacted sent messages but does anyone
know how to get the line off my sent messages.

many thanks

A strikethrough on messages tells us that you have an IMAP mail account and
you have (accidentally or otherwise) marked them for deletion. Just Unmark
them.

What version of Outlook and what type of account?

Not necessarily. That's also how expired messages are presented as well.

i have microsoft outlook 2007 v5.1.2600 service pack 3
I do not get an error message but when i click in my email sent items, it is
showing several of them with a line through the titlle - the main view box at
the bottom of the screen is unaffected, just the subject box. I have marked
them all as read and unread etc and it had made no difference.
thank you for your help in advance

just found a box where they are marked with an expiry date. I have
unchecked this and the strike has gone. Thank you for that but can you telll
me how this tick got there in the first place if you know.
also - any idea why you loose all your sent messages when you compact?

You still haven't confirmed or refuted if this is for an IMAP account.

Outlook 2007 is V12 and Service Pack 1 is the most recent SP. Click
Help>About and state what you have.

As far as I know, nothing automatic in Outlook will mark messages as
expired. I don't know how that might have happened. I do know, however,
that compacting a PST does NOT lose messages. Nothing gets deleted when
compacting a PST.

Click Tools>Options>Other>AutoArchive and post the settings.

all boxes are ticked except 'run auto archieve' , and 'permanently delete old
items, it is really all greyed out except the first question which is not
ticked.
does this help

If the Run box were checked as well as the "Delete expired items (e-mail
folders only)" and your messages were marked expired as you said they were,
that could explain why they were getting deleted. Right-click the Sent
Items, choose Properties, select the AutoArchive tab. What is set there?
