What is the Outlook "exchange extensions property pages" Add-in?

I'm using Outlook for POP3 email only. Can someone tell me what the "exchange extensions
property pages" add-in for Outlook 2002 is?

I'm having trouble shutting down Outlook 2002 sometimes (can be caused by add-ins), and
I'm wondering if it is safe to disable this add-in.
