favorite folders

I have 3 folders in 'my favorite folders' - inbox, outbox and sent items.
For the last couple of months whenever I open Outlook, either one of my
'favorite folders has gone down into folders or calendar, or calendar archive
has moved up into 'my favorite folders'.
Can anyone tell me why this has occurred and how to fix it.
I have disabled the two add-ins that I have, Kaspersky mail checker and
Exchange extensions property pages, and it makes no difference.

Start Outlook with the /resetnavpane switch and see if it is consistent now.
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetnavpane

If that's a proper transcript of your command, there should be a space
between exe and /resetnavpane

Hey Gordon
I tried both ways - with a space and without, makes no difference.
Microsoft Outlook 2003 - SP3 - Windows cannot find
'outlook.exe/resetnavepane'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then
try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click
search.
I only get that error message with no space between exe and resetnavpane.
With a space it just takes me back to outlook, but doesn't solve the problem
of my favorite folders.

It must. At the very least, the error message should change.

You still don't have the space in the command and you have an extra "e" in the
command switch. The correct command is

outlook.exe /resetnavpane

You can also try fully-qualifying the command name

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\outlook.exe" /resetnavpane

Make sure you include all quotes and spaces.

I didn't make myself clear - with the space it takes me back to outlook,
without the space, I get the error message.
I have just tried the fully qualified command line and it restatrted
outlook, but sent items, outbox and inbox had gone down into 'all mail
folders'.
Can I delete outlook and reinstall as a possible fix?

Of course. You're starting Outlook with that command, but wiht a regenerated
set of Nav Pane views.
without the space, I get the error message.

Of course, because it's an illegal command without the space.

Of course. Where would you expect them to be? They're mail folders. When
you use the "Mail" view of the Nav Pane, you're going to see all folders that
contain mail in the "All Mail Folders" portion of the view. Where did you
think you'd see them? Add them back to the Favorites section by
right-clicking them and choosing "Add to Favorites Folders" or just drag them
up to the that section of the pane.
Can I delete outlook and reinstall as a possible fix?

I doubt that will help.

Brian - I'm not sure if you are intending to be a smart-ass or not, but
that's the way it's coming across.
I'm well aware that they are mail folders, but when I put my chosen ones
i.e. inbox, outbox and sent items into favorite folders, I expect them to
stay there, not go back into all mail folders of their own volition.
I'm not losing any information or emails or anything, but I don't want to
have to put them back into favorite folders each time I open outlook - that
is my problem!

Usually when changes don't stick between running Outlook one time and the
next, it's because something is preventing Outlook from closing properly.
Check to see if that's happening to you.
