What is RealVNC

Hi All
Running Vista Home P here.
Today windows defender came up with a message that some unwanted software
was on my pc.
The name is RealVNC.
By doing some reading I understand that VNC is part of windows if I
understood it right.
But some other programs add the RealVNC files.
How can I tell if I am supposed to keep this file , ignore it , or delete ,
or Quarantine it. Really confused now.
Thanks

RealVNC is the classic remote Virtual Network Computing (VNC) program.
It allows one PC to see what is on the display of another. Useful for a
corporation to fix problems without actually being at the computer. We
use a VNC product for 1700 computers in our network.

It's helpful for technicians, but not part of windows (unless Vista
includes it by default), nor is it required. I do not have a copy of
Vista available, so my references or information may be incorrect.

RealVNC is not really "unwanted" software, and I'm suprised to see Windows
Defender referring to it as such.

Put simply, RealVNC lets you control your computer remotely--from across the
room or around the world if you wanted to. You can learn more at
http://www.realvnc.com/.

In this sense it has the potential to be "unwanted" as a malicious user
could install it without your knowledge or consent and then use it to see
everything you were doing on screen.

If you really didn't want it, Windows Defender could probably remove it. Or
you can uninstall it from Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel or
Computer window in Vista.

This is a print screen copy of what defender said.

"This program has potential unwanted behaviour".

There is nothing wrong with VNC (there are different versions), but as the
previous poster said, whoever installed it on your computer either wanted to
control your computer remotely, or spy on what you were doing.

Or perhaps it came with some sort of "support" software from an OEM or
ISP.

Not entirely correct. It can be hacked.
