RealVNC Free Edition security

I believe RealVNC is not secure at all, but I wanted to be sure. I
think all data transferred is as plain text, and I am not even sure if
the password authentication is encrypted, but it may be.

Does anyone know for sure? Or can point me to a place that tells me?
You'd be surprised how hard it is to find information on this. You'd
think RealVNC may want to say something about this to get people to
buy the real deal...

The free edition does not encrypt the password.
What I use is RealVNC and hamachi.
Basically I am vnc'ing through the hamachi tunnel.
works like a charm.
just have to configure realvnc to use 5.0.0.0/255.0.0.0

An alternative is UltraVNC with its encryption plug-in.

....and/or run VNC (any flavor) through a VPN or Secure Shell (SSH) tunnel.
