Weird mpeg files from Sony DVD HCam & Pixela?

Hi

I have seen a couple of posts on issues with Sony DVD Handycams - really great units, but I have found problems with MM2 to be very frustrating.

My understanding is that they come with a USB connection only and that MM2 cannot capture from the camera. So I have been capturing using Pixela Imagemixer (v1.5), supplied with the camera, through a USB. Each clip comes through as an mpeg file. These play fine in Imagemixer - and also in WinDVD (v4). However, these files crashed Windows Media Player due to conflicts with iviaudio.ax & ivivideo.ax from WinDVD (I think). Fixed that by uninstalling WinDVD & renaming these files

Now they play in WMP but freeze every so often for 10 or more seconds before continuing. Each file always freezes in the same place - but it is different for every file. In MM2 collections, thumbnail pictures from the video show up okay - but when I play in the preview window I get sound but no video

I have WMP9 & latest DirectX & drivers for my nVidia card running on a P4 (2.8 GHz). Changing hardware acceleration has not fixed the problems. I don't know if this is a problem with my system - or the result of weirdness in the mpeg files from the Imagemixer software

Can anyone give me any clues????

Movie Maker wasn't made to work with MPEG2 files.... you should use the Sony
provided software to convert the files to AVI for use in MM2.

See the Digital Camcorders > Sony page of my site.

Thanks PapaJohn - this has fixed it. You really are "MV"

For those of you playing at home....
Right click video thumbnail in Imagemixer and choose "export as movie" - export to DV/AVI. Click the first of the check boxes for resize options (not the second or both) - otherwise there are problems with aspect ratio (on my machine anyway). The AVI files work a treat in MM2.
