W2k hangs on install at networking settings

hi all,
my w2k box stopped booting after a couple of years of trouble free use.
After many tries to boot safe mode and such, I tried a new install. New
install always hangs at same place, Networking Settings setup.
Drive is dual boot FAT32 w/ W98se and W98se boots and runs fine.

After 1st day, I saved data to network drive and re-partitioned /
reformatted hd.
When I try fresh install of w2k, it still hangs at same place, Networking
Settings setup. Tried removing all cards except AGP video, no luck.

Any ideas welcome,
Scott

Scott,
A couple of questions...
When you are re-loading is the old C:\winnt\.. directory
structure there? If so re-name it, delete the BOOT.INI &
the O/S system files in the root of C:..

Is there an on-board NIC that may be activated or faulty?

I had had a similar issue some time ago with a multihomed
server... I ended up removing both nics, removing the
settings I could find in the registry & re-inserting the
nics and then re-creating the network settings - not real
good but after many hours I was up and running again...
