voice chat with instant messenger

I have been trying to voice chat with my Sister. She can hear me just
fine but I can not hear her at all. We both have headsets with a mic. My
laptop and her laptop are new. We made sure that all volume was up and
nothing was muted but I still can not hear her. I read about voice chat
on line and it stated that you would need a headset and also a sound
card. I ran around everywhere yesterday to many places bestbuy and
circuit city and they tell me that this sound card is already built in.
I told them that my sister can hear me just fine but she can not hear
me. They said that the problem must be on her end not mine. I'm still
wondering about this so called sound card. Does anyway here know what
the problem could be?

Yes we have checked with the wizard and all is ok there.

They said that the problem must be on her end not mine. So, now how are
each of you connecting to the Internet. Dial Up? Cable? DSL? do either
of you have a Router? Do either of you have a Firewall, are you using XP?
Have you disabled the built in Firewall?
