Vista-sucks

Networking works like crap in vista.. Err... That may be giving it too much
credit.

Here's my experience today:
(1) Deleted old Vista partition
(2) Created new Vista partition in its space (keeping old XP install intact
until out of beta)
(3) Installed, Logged in.
(4) Web browser - Seems "ok", I can at least get to the microsoft sites now,
and
(5) I went to ideas.live.com and downloaded Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta,
and it tells me "I'm not online", well, if that's the case how on earth did
I just download you??
(6) Add Weather "Gadget" to desktop, it insists "Service not Available" but
I think I know better than that.

If #5 (Windows Live Messenger Beta) Doesn't have networking, and #6 The
Weather Gadget doesn't have networking, then what's going on?? Windows Mail
(the included mail program) _does_ have networking, that's how I'm able to
post this.

Come on guys, this is release candidate 1 and you're pre-selling the
product. Please tell me networking is going to be working PRIOR to the
"real" release??

Sounds like the things you're complaining about rely on back-end
infrastructure that may not be in place yet...

Did you go into Windows Firewall and turn the weather gadget on? All network
connect programs should be listed under the "exceptions" tab.

They work just fine for me.

Maybe the server was down? The weather gadget has been working fine
here.

(1) The server was down in one case.
(2) My clock was wrong in another.

Since #1 and #2 were resolved, I've been running Vista and haven't been
tempted to dual-boot back into XP yet. Very happy with it.
