Vista Sleep, Hibernation Internet Connection Lost

I use Ultimate, but there are probably far more copies of Premium
out there than the others, so don't pay any attention to their
comments.

Microcenter should know if they have v8's.

Netgear told me that they had more trouble reports from Vista Premium users
than Vista Basic. I have Premium. Is this what you have?

Microcenter [AKA Rent-A-Center] has the WGR614 on sale for $34.99. The
sticky point is that the packaging states WGR614NA. It does not reveal the
version number.

Maybe I could go back with my cell phone and read off some serial numbers to
a Netgear tech until I find a WGR614v8? [This is assuming that the WGR614v8
will resolve this issue and Microcenter has any WGR614v8(s)]

No. I talked with a number of employees there. The packaging does not state
the version, and the stocking system they have does not have it either.
BTW, are you using a wired connection, ethernet card?

Well Barb,

WGR614v8 seems to have resolved the issue. I have tried both sleep and
hibernation, and afterwards, if Vista appears to have lost the connection,
it is able to reestablish it. I went through it more than once using both
modes.

So, what do to do now? I could hope that other Netgear router WGR614 users
have v8s as well. Microcenter sold so many of this model on sale that they
must have run out of v7s. That was the one I bought unknowingly. So, if you
hear of this from anyone else using a Netgear router, you can tell them to
makes sure to purchase the v8. Or, maybe Netgear will be able to update the
firmware of the earlier versions enough to resolve this.

Ok,it's a little confusing. With the WGR614v8, if I click on "View Computers

listed: WGR614v8 (Wireless AP) [in addtion to my laptop, desktop, and
WGR614v8 (Gateway)].

If I right click on WGR614v8 (Wireless AP) and select "Configure" and enter

That's interesting! I tried both the v6 that I bought last year and the v7
that I just bought and had the same problem with both. I updated the
firmware and it did not help.

The v8 seemed to correct the problem, but, of course, it may have been
possible to configure Vista to accomodate the older versions.

I had this problem with a WIRED connection, not wireless. I have not tried
the wireless yet.

it is able to reestablish it. I went through it more than once using both
modes.

So, what do to do now? I could hope that other Netgear router WGR614

have v8s as well. Microcenter sold so many of this model on sale that
they
must have run out of v7s. That was the one I bought unknowingly. So, if
you
hear of this from anyone else using a Netgear router, you can tell them

makes sure to purchase the v8. Or, maybe Netgear will be able to update
the
firmware of the earlier versions enough to resolve this.

Ok Thanks.
I just got off the phone with Netgear. They told me that all the v8s
have
a
serial number starting with 1MF----------. Maybe you can confirm this?
I'm
going back to Microcenter later on tonight and purchase one.

No. I talked with a number of employees there. The packaging does not
state
the version, and the stocking system they have does not have it
either.
BTW, are you using a wired connection, ethernet card?
Fred
I use Ultimate, but there are probably far more copies of Premium
out there than the others, so don't pay any attention to their
comments.

Microcenter should know if they have v8's.

Netgear told me that they had more trouble reports from Vista
Premium
users
than Vista Basic. I have Premium. Is this what you have?

Microcenter [AKA Rent-A-Center] has the WGR614 on sale for $34.99.
The
sticky point is that the packaging states WGR614NA. It does not
reveal
the
version number.

Maybe I could go back with my cell phone and read off some serial
numbers
to
a Netgear tech until I find a WGR614v8? [This is assuming that the
WGR614v8
will resolve this issue and Microcenter has any WGR614v8(s)]

I believe the chipsets and firmware are different in the V8. Plus,
the V8 is Vista logo'd.

Well Barb,

hibernation, and afterwards, if Vista appears to have lost the
connection,
it is able to reestablish it. I went through it more than once using both

Both wired and wireless recover from sleep/hibernation just fine for me
(WGR614v5).
