Hello

When I type something in Search at the bottom of the Start Menu the
magnifying glass immediately turns into a cross. If I click the cross
button the typed word disappears and Start Search appears. So where do I
click to begin the search ? Thank you.

The "x" means delete, so it deletes what you typed in.
Just type in what you want to search for, and wait a bit.

Or, you can open the standalone search box, by clicking on Start, and
selecting Search on the right panel.
