Using the Search Box in Outlook 2007

When I click on the two little feather triangles that are beside the
magnifying glass attached to the Search Inbox box, I get some fields that
appear to be fields that I can type in (From, Subject, Body, To) and also an
Add Criteria button BUT, it is all greyed out. WHY? How do I make those
fields available?
