WINDOWS VISTA SEARCH NOT WORKING

When I click on the Start Icon and do a "start search" some of my files DON'T
show up! For example I have a folder in "Documents" named "Banquet" In that
folder I have at least 6 Word documents with the word "Banquet" in the file
name and 2 PowerPoint files with the word "Banquet" in the file name.
However, when I do a search for the word "Banquet" NONE of those files show
up! I have Vista Ultimate and this is THE ONLY problem I've had with it.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
P.S. I've already tried this ->(Right-click the Taskbar and choose
Properties. Click Start menu, Customize. Under the section named "Search
files", select the option "Search this user's files". Click OK, OK.) IT
DIDN'T WORK. Thanks.

If you do Start -> Search and then type in the search box do you see the
files? If you go to the Indexing Options Control Panel, do you see any error
messages or similar?

Dave, No I don't see the files that have "Banquet" in them. I know I have 4
Word documents with "Banquet" in them and about 4 PowerPoint files with the
word "Banquet" in them.

I went into the Indexing Options and everything looks fine. No error
messages or anything out of place. 6,574 items indexed. Indexing complete.
Included Locations are: Offline Files; Start Menu; and Users.

It seems that my "Documents" folder is not included in the searches. So, I
went in and added the Documents folder and it still does not pull it up. I
now have 12,334 items indexed. There really seems to be no rhyme or reason
to how Vista is searching and missing these OBVIOUS files.... Microsoft
extensions at that. I went in and made sure that the "file types" are
selected and they are... so that's not it... Any more suggestions? Thanks

Hi!

I had the same problem.
Here is the solution:

1. Right-click the Taskbar and choose Properties
2. Click Start menu, Customize
3. Under the section named "Search files", select the option "Search entire
index"
4. Click OK, OK

And it's done!

Have a nice day!

Randor, I tried this to no avail. I can't imagine what the problem is. I
even tried to open the files, thinking that maybe that would cause them to
show up in search but that didn't work either. What did work though was
creating a "NEW" file with the word "Banquet" in it... did a search for
"Banquet" and it showed up in search at the top of the list... go figure.
This is really a bummer because this is the ONE feature in Vista that I was
excited about.... excitement quickly fading.. Thanks for your reply though.
I feel like I'm wasting everyone time on such a minor issue that shouldn't be
an issue at all.
